Marianne Jean-Baptiste was born on 26 April 1967 in London, England. She is married to Evan Williams and she has two daughters. Her husband is a ballet dancer. She has had a classical training from the Royal Academy of Dramatic Art in London. She has given a performance at the Royal National Theater.
She had acted in ‘Once Upon a Time’ (1991), ‘Cracker‘ (1994), ‘Mr. Jealousy’ (1997), ‘28 Days‘ (2000) and ‘Without a Trace’ (2002-present). Her collaboration with the director Mike Leigh for a stage drama ‘It’s a Great Big Shame’ was one of the important steps in her career. She is also a writer and composer, and she has recorded an album of blues songs. She also did music composition for the film ‘Career Girls’. A social drama ‘Secrets & Lies’ gave her overnight success as an actress and she became the first black British artist in the international scene to earning nominations in Academy Awards. She was also nominated in Golden Globe Awards for ‘Secrets & Lies’.
